Over the past couple of years Chris has been getting involved in the year 11's art projects at his old high school.
It began with a request by the head of art David Ingham taking an interest in studying local art by living artists. Chris is always humbled by these sorts of requests that help inspire young students to embrace art and get possitive feedback in their creative skills.
Studio visit 2011. Chris was moved by the overwhelming amount of comments for the year 6 students from this local school and is amazed by the quallity of the work. Chris tries to see most of his paintings through a childs perspective but only a child can truly have a 'naive' approach to painting and drawing.
Dear Chris,
Thank you for letting us visit your studio to see your work. It was great! We all enjoyed it, especially when you let us paint on one of your pictures.
We will all never forget the great experience you have given us, and it was probably the best 2 artistic hours of my life. It was amazing to see some of your pictures, that lots of people would see on the internet, in real life.
Thank you from Sam Waite....aged 9.
Dear Chris,
Thanks you for all the techniques and skills you gave me to use in my work. I enjoyed learning all different things and loved having a go at painting! When I walked into your studio I was amazed at all your paintings and had a go myself at one of your paintings. When it was time to leave I didn't want to go. It was such a good experience!
From Megan Chalmers....aged 9
At the Tatton park flower show in 2009, Chris was asked to document the Christie charity show garden. The finished painting had to be completed during the week of the building of the garden, so Chris decided to make a collage painting documenting the stages of the garden.
The painting was on display at the show and was up for closed bids.
The painting was bought by Carole Nash for £2.500. All the funds were for the new Radio therapy department at the Royal Oldham Hospital. Carole then donated the painting back to the hospital where it remains today.
Chris was honoured to return to his primary school in Mossley in 2011.
'The feeling you get from working with close community schools and groups is a very rewarding one.
Most of the children I have worked with have a very limited knowlage of art and artists, little did they know that only a five minute walk from the school is my studio & gallery'.
The year 9 pupils were working on a project about allotments and were exploring different aspects that they envolve including community, awareness of homegrown produce and the benefits, and the asthetics incuding painting them.
A note from Steven Hodgkinson, Cheshire.
I first saw your picture showcased in an allotment association magazine.
I was so taken I went to the gallery that was exhibiting your pictures.
I liked the quirky style which mirrors some aspects of having an
allotment. We allotment holders are a quirky lot!
Steven was so taken by Chris's painting 'Milltown Allotment' it inspired him to have a go at recreating it on his own canvas. Happy with the result it now hangs on his shed door on his allotment.
